Participating Communities - Rankin

In 1939, approximately 3,763.9 acres, including a small parcel of land along the northern shore of the St. Mary's River, was purchased with Band funds for the purpose of establishing a reserve location. In 1949, an additional eight and one quarter acres was acquired north of Silver Creek. Collectively known as the Rankin Reserve, located on the eastern boundary of Sault Ste Marie, our two sections received official status on July 8, 1952.

Batchewana First Nation's Rankin location is the most populated area where well over six hundred of the band's two thousand plus members reside.

The Rankin Reserve hosts its administration offices which delivers both programs and services to our on and off reserve members. Also, a number of member-owned and band-owned businesses such as the Blue Heron Industrial Park, Daycare & Junior School facilities, the newly-renovated Rankin Arena, can be found at Batchewana First Nation's Rankin location.
