Barbara Day - Project Manager

project managerBoozhoo, Barbara Day N'dizhinikaaz, Bawating (Sault Ste. Marie) N'doonjibaa. My Spirit Name is Misko Asin Kwe (Red Stone Women). Aajijaak N'dodem (I am Crane Clan). I am very excited, pleased and honoured to have been offered this position of the Project Manager for the Shingwauk Education Trust Project, Community Healing Strategy Project. I accept this position with great humility. I can promise that I will do my best to head the project, and the Aboriginal Healing Foundation and of each individual community under the project's umbrella.

Just to let you know a bit about myself, I am an Anishnaabe kwe from Batchewana First Nation. I have strong ties to Garden River, that is where I grew up and I consider both my home. I have one son, who is 19 years of age and he is a handsome young man, I might add. I am the middle child of seven siblings. I am an Auntie to many nieces and nephews.

I am a graduate of the Native Human Services Program from the Laurentian University. I have earned a Bachelor of Social Work Degree. I have done a lot of community and social work in the Native community, here in the Bawating area, in Sudbury and Toronto in my younger days.

I love our people, our culture, our language, and our proud history. I am a Jingle Dress Dancer, a Hand Drummer/Singer and I always involve myself in the community to promote culture, healing and wellness. I respect other people's paths, beliefs and ways as well, because I realize that we are a very dynamic people.
